Alex Reed

Software Engineer

I build backend systems and the infrastructure they run on. Interested in distributed systems, networks, and small tools that do one thing well.

About

I'm a programmer who enjoys working close to the metal of the internet: servers, protocols, and the plumbing between them. Most of my time goes into designing services that stay boring in production — observable, predictable, and easy to reason about at 3 a.m.

When I'm not shipping code, I'm usually taking apart some piece of networking gear, automating my home lab, or reading about how large systems fail and recover.

Toolbox

Selected Projects

Fleet Monitor

A lightweight monitoring setup for a handful of small servers — metrics, log shipping, and alerting that fits on machines with 1 GB of RAM.

Go · systemd · SQLite

Network Toolkit

Command-line utilities for diagnosing connectivity across regions: latency matrices, route tracing, and throughput baselines.

Python · asyncio

Home Lab Automation

Scripts and small services that keep a home network self-healing — dynamic DNS, tunnel health checks, and config backups.

Shell · Ansible · REST APIs
